Clarifying the “Uncle Tom” Distortion

On July 2nd, Professor David Reynolds was a guest on “Inside the Issues” hosted by Dr. Wilmer Leon, III.  His latest book, “Mightier than the Sword: Uncle Tom’s Cabin and the Battle of America” was discussed.   The significance of the book is it corrects the popular myth that “Uncle Tom” was a sellout.  That stigma has plagued people who use the phrase to negatively describe a person or their antics.  Unfortunately, most who read the original book and understood all of the characters Ms. Stowe wrote about, know that Uncle Tom was not a sellout.  Still,  through folklore or other cultural differences, a myth turns into a fact, WHICH IS NOT TRUE.

If you want to update your perspective, or it you’ve never probed the subject you are encouraged to get the book and listen to the interview.

Dr. Wilmer Leon, III is a Professor at Howard University, a protegé of the late Dr. Ron Walters, and national syndicated Talk Show Host of “Inside the Issues” heard on Sirius 128 The Power
