VOTER SUPPRESSION: A Look at the G.O.P.’s Attempt to Steal the 2012 National Election

Every person 18 years old and older should be encouraged to participate in their RIGHT  as a citizen of the United States and VOTE.

2008 Presidential Election Results by State

As the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama settled in after getting sworn in, some in the opposition party; Republicans set out a strategy to never allow the historic reality to happen again (special meeting at Caucus Room Restaurant) .  Their strategy was nothing new.  It was successfully used after the Civil War during the period called “Reconstruction” when some thwarted the rise of African-American political leadership.  Up until the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965, it was in full throttle as many who had to right to vote, were intimated or otherwise denied their right to vote.

The current ruse of the suppression was an excuse to allegedly stop voter fraud.   Was it a solution looking for a problem that never existed?  Many, think so.  Yet, there has been very little, if any abuse.  Why would a person risk prison to cast an illegal vote?

No doubt, ever since President Obama became President, Republican governors supported by G.O.P. leadership has crafted an onslaught to change legislation targeted at those most likely to support President Obama or the Democratic party.  Surprisingly, laws were changed and only recently has the electorate finally awakened to challenge what is an obvious attempt to minimize the vote or make it difficult for those who enjoyed their “voting right” in 2008.

UNDERSTAND WHY CERTAIN STATES CANNOT CHANGE VOTING REGULATIONS

The Issue is not I.D. but changing the type of I.D. which is acceptable.  So, in order to comply with the new I.D. (even though it may be free), a person is challenged or other wise inconvenienced, just to get something that in 2008 was perfectly acceptable!

Voter suppression comes in many forms.  The sole objective is to make it difficult for a person to vote, if not stop them from voting all together.  At the recent Democratic National Convention, Congressman John Lewis recants “what it use to be like.”  It is unbelievable to think that approximately 50 years ago, many thought such tactics would come to an end.  But as you can see from the data presented, Voter Suppression is the tool used to manipulate voter participation.

How much is Attorney General Eric Holder doing to stop voter suppression? It looks like a pretty anemic effort to me. Where is the national campaign? Why has there been so little press on the subject? Holder was a Corporate attorney in the first place. Is he still pandering to the 1%? It certainly looks that way, I haven’t heard the President mention it once. Are we, the voters, taking it too seriously. Or are they not taking it seriously enough?

      Thanks for chiming in Lila.
Progress never comes quick enough, but at the same time specifically relating to Voting Rights and changes, there is a process.
AG Holder has directed resources to address those states who are still under federal supervision, and in fact several have had their proposed legislation cancelled or amended to reflect voter protection. Hopefully people have taken a peek at Article 5, which clearly states how this regulation is implemented. http://www.justice.gov/crt/about/vot/sec_5/about.php

btw, did not President Obama mention it during his recent speech at the DNC??? Either way, it is the Justice Department who oversees this issue and while I too would love for President Obama to vocalize on every issue, that is not practical and the reason various agencies are empowered to enforce laws.
